About

If you could picture your dream vacation venue, what would it look like?

Well, I’m hoping it’s a lot like Blue Harbor View.

My name is Susan and two years ago I had an epiphany—to return home to my roots in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, throw off the nine-to-five workday, and to use all of my experience in tourism to run a vacation rental home.

My friends thought I was crazy…

They still do.

But, let me add this is no ordinary vacation stay…oh no. There aren’t any cast-off furnishings or tired linens in sight. Instead, I wanted to create a luxury, boutique, home away from home, where you can enjoy all the comforts of modern life in a chic, relaxed city setting with stunning views of Lake Superior.

Let me be straight though…

Taking on a project like this in a house built in 1880 wasn't without its problems.

Like the time during the renovation, my local contractor, Tom, discovered that the plumbing to the whirlpool tub could only be fixed by cutting a hole in the wall of the adjacent bedroom. That can be done, but the leaking lines to the jets can only be fixed by cutting a hole in the floor below the bathroom.

Not easy to fix...and not worth it. So, the bathroom was completely renovated in December 2020. It is modern and luxurious but designed with a nod to the history of the house. With beadboard walls, mosaic tiles, a deep soaking tub, and a frosted glass window.

Nevertheless, all the blood, sweat, and tears are worth it as what I’ve created for you is truly breathtaking.

Of course, I’m a little biased so instead let me set the scene for you.

Imagine starting your day with a cup of coffee in hand, sitting in a comfy wicker chair, overlooking the harbor as the sun rises over Lake Superior.

Enjoy your morning coffee on the covered side porch.

Here, the outdoors calls. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the U.S. and third largest in the world. Within minutes are some of the most spectacular sights for outdoor adventurers in the U.P. Every season offers visitors its magic.

Take a drive to Little Presque Isle and walk a short distance to one of the most pristine beaches you will see anywhere. This is an easy hike as you head along the edge of the lake toward Wetmore Landing. Hike for a few hours or a day–this trail is on the 4,600 mile-long North Country National Scenic Trail.

At the end of your day’s adventure, cozy comfort awaits you at the bungalow. Cook a meal in the fully equipped kitchen, or grill some tasty burgers on the porch, then relax under the soft porch lights and enjoy the U.P. air.

Blue Harbor View has everything to help you wind down and unplug if only for a few days.
